What Does Art Have to do with Community Development?

Chhaya’s inaugural art exhibit at the Richmond Hill Center, featuring conceptual artist Andil Gosine, was an opportunity to celebrate the beauty of our community, create space for our aspirations to shine, and build a space for our collective healing. Art has always been the most fertile soil from which social change can take root and blossom. Aligning with Chhaya’s work addressing the housing crisis and economic stress that continues to pressure and displace our communities, this Center and gallery space is part of our resistance. We are putting a stake in the ground in claiming community space, affirming our right to be here– to be seen, to be heard
