Jackson Heights, NY — Yesterday, the U.S. Supreme Court voted 5-4 to lift a preliminary injunction that blocked the Trump administration’s punitive “public charge rule” from taking effect. The rule seeks to impose unprecedented and alarming limits on legal immigration and punish immigrants who legally access public services.

“The Supreme Court’s decision to allow the Trump Administration to move forward with its reprehensible rule makes them party to a campaign of fear and obfuscation,” said Annetta Seecharran, Executive Director of Chhaya CDC. “Chhaya calls on its community partners to join us in our efforts to fight for justice and the rights of our immigrant community.”

Following rulings on policies like the Muslim Ban and illegal detention, the Supreme Court legitimizes a campaign by the Trump administration to use immigrants as scapegoats and create an enemy for political purposes.
