From Crisis to Recovery: NY’s Fight for Public Banking

Join us at 6:30PM (EST) on Thursday, May 7th for a timely and participatory virtual town hall on public banking. The COVID-19 pandemic has exposed the profound injustice at the core of so many of our economic institutions. As Wall Street banks exploit the crisis and continue to exacerbate racial and economic inequality, we must advance a bold vision of a just economy that works for all. The need for a municipal public bank — mission-driven to invest in permanently affordable housing, small and worker-owned businesses, and more — has never been clearer.

The town hall will feature community and movement leaders, including special guest Kali Akuno of Cooperation Jackson, who are fighting for public banking as a strategy to advance racial and economic justice, ecological resilience, and neighborhood equity — both in this moment of crisis and beyond. Participants will create community among peers, build political power, and take action.

Look out for updates and the Zoom link to join, which we’ll send to folks who RSVP closer to the event’s date.

Hosted by member-groups of Public Bank NYC and open to participants statewide. Qs: reach out to Megan Ahearn at NYPIRG: mahearn@nypirg.org
