Basement Apartments & the Census

Right now, we are being counted for the 2020 Census. The federal government uses this count to determine its spending on public resources such as schools, hospitals, and public transportation. If you live in an illegal basement apartment, the census is safe for you. YOU COUNT.
Join Chhaya CDC for a community webinar to discuss the facts that all basement tenants and landlords should know about the 2020 Census. Should you complete the Census? Will it put you at risk of fines or evictions by the Department of Buildings? How can you know your information is safe?
We will share vital information about how census data is collected, used, and protected. We will also discuss the rights of basement tenants and homeowners who rent out their basement apartments. Lastly, we will tell you about ways you can get involved to further promote safe basement legalization in NYC.
