Housing Preservation Program
Yangchen Chadotsang, Housing Preservation Program Manager, joined Chhaya CDC in 2010 as a Housing Counselor. She has counseled over 500 clients and helped over 100 clients become first time home owners. As Senior Housing Specialist, she is in charge of homeownership education and counseling as well as the financial empowerment program. Yangchen graduated with honors from Loreto College in Darjeeling, West Bengal, India where she worked as a counselor for 2 years, and has also previously taught at Tungram school in Nepal as a volunteer. Presently she is a member of the Phayu Chikpa, a Tibetan community group in New York City. Where she provides language assistance and any other help the community member’s require in the process of resettlement from their home countries. She actively participates in all of their community meetings and identifies the pressing needs of the people of this community. Yangchen is a NeighborWorks certified counselor in Housing Counseling. She has also successfully completed the Financial Education and Counselor Training with NYC Department of Consumer Affairs, Office of Financial Empowerment. She speaks Nepali, Hindi, Urdu and is proficient in Bengali and Tibetan.
