Rina Biswas is passionate about helping individuals reach their full potential. She believes that when individuals thrive, communities flourish. She was attracted to Chhaya’s unique value proposition: meeting the needs of clients by providing free direct services while also serving as their voice and advocate as a part of the larger (primarily) South Asian immigrant community. As a result, joining Chhaya’s Board seemed like a natural fit blending her desire to serve while bringing a unique perspective to the organization. She previously served as Chhaya’s Board Chair (2014-2016) and Treasurer (2010-2014).
Professionally, Rina believes that capital markets enable both individuals and societies to effectively assess and balance short- and long-term risks to enable stable economic development. Economic development, in turn, leads to stronger, more stable communities and societies. She works for large global financial institutions at the intersection of Finance and Risk Management with expertise in business planning and strategy, financial reporting and analysis. She is interested in moving large complex global financial institutions towards more transparency and accountability. Rina is currently with the Royal Bank of Canada (RBC) helping to implement stress test and capital adequacy programs required by regulators after the 2008 global financial crisis. Prior to RBC, she was with Deutsche Bank in various roles within the Finance organization in both New York and London. She is a graduate of NYU’s Leonard N. Stern School of Business and is fluent in Bengali.
In her spare time, Rina can be found taking classes and workshops at her local yoga studio, the Shala in Union Square, where she completed a 200-hour Teacher Training Program on Ashtanga-based vinyasa yoga.
