Director of Development
Aniqa Nawabi joined Chhaya CDC in April 2014 as Manager of Resource Development. Currently, she serves as the Director of Development at Chhaya. Her aim is to make Chhaya CDC the leading South Asian serving non-profit in New York City, in both the delivery of programs, development of resources, and in visibility in the policy and donor landscapes. In her past role as an Assistant Research Scholar at New York University, she conducted research and wrote on post-conflict states. She also assisted in writing international grants for development projects in Afghanistan. As a volunteer for the Organization for the Advancement of Afghan Women (OAAW), a non-profit based in New York, she organizes the annual fundraiser which helps in operating two schools and a health clinic in rural Afghanistan. Being from a developing country herself, Bangladesh, she is an ardent advocate for social justice issues affecting vulnerable populations both locally and internationally. Aniqa has a Master’s in Public Administration degree from the Robert F. Wagner School of Public Service at New York University, a Bachelor’s in Political Science and Economics from Queens College, and is an alumnus of the Jeanette K. Watson Fellowship. In her spare time, Aniqa loves to travel, learn about new cultures, and taste exotic foods.
