“VOICES UNHEARD” explores the struggles of low-income South Asian immigrants in finding housing in New York City.

The intent of the film was to give voice to these immigrants who are often the subject of public discourses but rarely heard from directly. A montage of narratives from a Pakistani, Bangladeshi and Indian immigrant, it presents a first-person account of discrimination. The film was produced in November 2002 by Chhaya CDC using borrowed cameras, editing equipment and completed on a budget of $50. The video is now being used as an advocacy tool to generate awareness about the realities facing immigrants in New York City and to initiate a dialogue on their rights.
