Bridging the Gap: Overcoming Barriers to Immigrant Financial Empowerment in Northwest Queens

Bridging the Gap, which is based on 253 surveys, explores how immigrants in Northwest Queens save and manage money, and the barriers they face in doing so. It also highlights the complicated relationships immigrants have to banks and other financial services, as well as the tools and mechanisms that work and do not work in promoting immigrant financial integration. The report provides concrete suggestions for policy makers and financial institutions on how to improve financial empowerment for immigrant communities across New York City. This report is put together by the Northwest Queens Financial Empowerment Network (NQFEN) with the support of the New York Community Trust.
